it'll be worth the wait....

So, the pagoda piece that was up for grabs has been grabbed. Won't get to tattoo it for a wee while as said grabber lives in England, but i'm still super stoked about doing it, and on a really nice customer too, so 10 points all round.

In other news, keep an eye out for August's edition of Brouhaha magazine, as it's gonna have interviews with three female Hong Kong tattooers among other goodness, here's a link to said publication ("said" is todays word of the day by the way)

Also, i have some super sweet pieces lined up over the weekend, so hopefully lots of nice tattoo photos for y'all, and until then, to keep yourselves busy, i suggest heading down to the Wanch on Thurs for their all day HANDOVER PARTY! should be a good'un

here's the description of the days said events, taken from their very own Myspazz invite:

"To celebrate the hand over The Wanch is host to an all day festival featuring music performed by The Rock & Roll Swindlers, Bee & Bertha, Shawn Martin, Ben McCarthy, Heroses, Logo, Of Moths & Stars, Milkteeth, 9th State, Fate, Bank Job, The Sleeves, Diving For Air, Hazden, Live Fast Die, & Sweet Revenge. Show starts at 2pm. "

i want to see people and i want to see lights

so i recently went to Corey Tam's long overdue CD release party. (star crossed are stocking his CD's so swing on by and grab a copy.... ooh, and bring mountain dew!) anyways, it was at rockschool (yeah....MORE rockschool *sigh*) i'm not keen on the sound there so much, but the lighting makes for awesome photos of whoever is lucky enough to be stood stage right..... so here's some pics.

(anyone who was there and wants more pics, i'll probably upload them onto facebook so just check over the next few days) anyways, it's late and i'm still at the studio. this no laptop thing sucks, i miss my laptop :(
gotta be up early tomorrow for a magazine interview, so til next time...

Holga lotta love

So i totally forgot about the 2nd roll of film from my day out at the meat market. We also ended up down the fish street so here's some pics from then.....on my Holga, or as Ross likes to call it my "piece of shit camera". charming.....

This was with fancy Lomo film so the colours are way brighter than the last roll i posted a few weeks back.....even the few i took without the colour flash look really vibrant which is good to know!

this next one was the inside of a toy shop, i have no idea why it came out like this.... coz i cant remember what i was actually taking the photo for...... but if i didn't know any better i'd be pretty certain these toys are well.... radioactive?!

bittersweetness

so today i had a big ol' chunk o' time put aside from a guy coming from Switzerland. He didn't show, and it was kinda bittersweet coz the piece i designed for him was really nice, and i'm really gutted i didn't get to tattoo it. so anyone interested in birds, peonies and a pagoda piece GET IN TOUCH! i really wanna do it, and i'll give ya a good deal!

the sweet side meant i had like over 3 hours to catch up on some design work, commission paintings that i'm SUPER LATE WITH (apologies) and i got another background layout for my website done. we got a walk in along with an exsisting booking, so i didnt get as much done as i'd hoped, but i sure did do a lot.

so i aint got no pics to post (don't wanna post everything for my website or it won't be exciting when it's up and running, right?!)

so ladies and gentlemen, i give to you an awesome painting Jill left for Ross and myself. i had to crop the image slightly coz it's wider than my scanner, but y'all get the idea. THANKS JILL!

to see more of her work CLICK HERE!

in other news i went on a mad barrette making binge on wednesday at the studio while ross was getting interviewed for Time Out magazine..... behold......

i don't stock them at the shop anymore, but i still make them to order, so anyone want some, lemme know. (half of these have a new home already i'm afraid)

monkey update

for all o' y'all who have been worried about the monkey post from a few days back, i have a quick update.

i've been contacted by MANY animal organisations these past few days, and it looks like the ball has really started rolling in relation to these injured monkeys. it sounds like there are a lot of people interested in going down there and monitoring them, seems like they manage to avoid infection surprisingly well due to the grooming they do on each other, and hopefully this can get resolved. i still have no news on what the injuries are from, so if anyone knows, i'm still very very curious....

below are some links to animal organisations/rescue/charities here in HK for anyone who may need them:

SPCA

AFCD

Kadoorie

HKDR

LAP

PALS

Animals Asia

HK animal rescue

HK alleycats

HKAAC

if i have missed any or you wanna add some, leave the link as a comment and i will edit them into this post.

pimp my hide

so big thanks to jill for her very extended guest spot. it was great having ya, safe travels and all that jazz,

as yesterday was her last day, i tattooed her, and she thugged me up a little too.... (apologies to my parents!)

it's been less than 24 hours and already i barely notice them.... it's weird.

and here's what i did on jill.... sat like a trooper and i'm pretty sure she'd fallen asleep by the end.

gotta go into work today (my supposed day off) to draw tomorrows tattoos, and then we're off to the wanch for a drunken night of Live Fast Die!

hibiscus

so here's a tattoo i did today.... super awesome customer who sat like a rock.

til next time.

simian symptoms

so today we went to monkey mountain, and what started as a good day turned into a really upsetting one.... this aint for the faint hearted, just to warn y'all....

so anyways, i figured i'd post a few nicer pictures before i get to the ... i don't even know how to describe what's coming.....

when we arrived we kinda thought something wasn't quite right.... the monkeys were'nt where they normally are and it took as a while to find any....

it was a beautiful day though so we strolled along for a while til we finally found some

even when we found a few grouped together it was still way less monkeys than we are used to seeing.....

some were getting fed, so we figured maybe others were getting fed and that's why we didnt see many.....

we figured we'd cross the road and see if we could find a few more monkeys and by the time we got back to the road....there were loads, so we kinda shrugged it off ....
but then we saw a monkey with half it's skin missing, we could see all his muscles clear as day as he limped past, and we just stood there, jaws dropped in shock. we thought maybe he had been hit by traffic, but there was something weird about his wound, almost like the skin missing was too clean to have been a traffic accident.... then we saw about 3 or 4 more, flayed, hobbling around.... and we got pretty freaked out. i don't know what the fuck is going on.... maybe it was traffic accidents but i've never seen anything like this, and the fact so many monkeys looked this way made us wonder.

i'm only posting this so you can see that i aint exagerrating at all (click to enlarge) this wasn't even the worst looking monkey we saw, but to honest i was in such shock that i didnt think to take a photo for a while

it was really horrible, it totally broke my heart. haven't been able to stop thinking bout those poor monkeys :(

anyone have any idea what the fuck is going on?

wan life, wan chai

ok, quick update on all that's been going on since .... when was it? thursday....?

so here are the pics of the Live Fast Die! acoustic gig for BC magazine at the Wanch.....

Was really good, if you missed it, a) you suck b) you're lucky coz they'll be doin it all over again for Corey Tam's CD launch on the 26th @ Rockschool.

LFD are building up quite the fan base...

we were pleased to see Jeff's guitar hanging in Amazonia was also sporting a sticker, along with a fair few taxis....

so anyways, yesterday I tattooed 2 cute lil' sugar skulls on Miss Mary who is friends with/worked with/met all the people i'd kill to befriend/work with/meet. examples? i hear you ask.... well here's a few..... Tim Burton, Patti Smith, and one of her tattooers in LA is none other than Craig Jackman who played washboard in Throw Rag (Arthur.,... you reading this?!) c'mon!?

OK, but anyways, here's Mary....

she currently works for Mattel and Hot Wheels..... and that necklace, is now my necklace, yep!

and here's her tattoos.....

so yeah, a good week! Live Fast Die! are playing the Wanch again Wednesday, not accoustic so no tambourines i'm afraid.....

and in other news it seems that the vampire population in Hong Kong have gotten a little more adventurous, don't get me wrong, they stick to the shadows of course.... and it'll be a while before they can cross this road..... but they're there... always lurking......

decisions decisions....

ok, so got the front page sorted, but now i'm torn...... i like all 3 versions..... argh!

this one is the original colour scheme.... and i think i'm gonna go with this, coz i really like black red n white together.....

this was just me fuckin about with the colours, but i REALLY like it. i just dont think i would want my whole website like this.... shame.....

and lastly, i really like it in black n grey.... i'm torn, advise could help. suggestions anyone?

live fast and computers die prematurely

so, last nights gig was pretty sweet, took some photos but they are on the other camera so those'll have to wait. you may have to wait a while coz it looks like our laptop just died. for real. that means blogging gets more sporadic.... we'll see.

anyways... here's one of 2 things i did today. we managed to fit in 2 and half more hours on the coi half sleeve that had just about healed enough.... super hard to get pics of, lots of fresh skin still and then.... the blood.....

but here's a taster of what's what so far....

ok, gotsta go try and get the front page of website totally finished.....

so til next time.

If you can afford to be eccentric then surely you can afford to buy a personality

so, like i said earlier, we went to songs for children's 1st birthday party, where the awesome Cats on Fire played, along with the awesome Milk Teeth (probably one of my favorite bands in HK.)

It was a good night but i do try and steer clear from gigs like this because, well..... there's always far too many indie arty farty arsehole scenesters. i cant be doing with them to be honest. trust me, i've tried, but half of them have the narrowest sense of musical knowledge that i'd rather talk to a windowlicker. i've also come to realise that most of them (MOST not ALL) have absolutely no personality and seem to think that dressing like a twat is enough to get you through life. it's not.

anyways, all in all it was a good night, here's some photos....

1st up, cats on fire.....

the ever awesome milk teeth... i was kinda disappointed joey wore shoes the whole night!

best balloon ever. blended in nicely with the crowd to be honest....

anyways, day off today and ross is at band practice right now. he's playing BC unplugged tomorrow at the Wanch and i think it's gonna be pretty good so y'all should come on down! that's right, live fast die! acoustic..... be there or be square!

it's the end of the world as we know it.....

how weird is this?!

A humongous statue, 6 stories, of Jesus Christ with his arms lifted to the heavens along a highway in Monroe, Ohio was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm Monday night and burned to the ground, police said. The statue, one of south Ohio's most famous landmarks, had stood since 2004 at the Solid Rock Church on Interstate 75 in Monroe, just north of Cincinnati. The lightning strike set the statue on fire around 11:15 p.m., Monroe police said. The fire spread from the statue to an nearby theater but was confined to the attic area, and no one was injured, police Chief Mark Neu said. The fire department is to release a monetary damage estimate on Tuesday. The sculpture, 62 feet tall and 40 feet wide at the bottom. It showed Jesus from the torso up and was sometimes called "Touchdown Jesus" because the arms' position was similar to that of a referee calling a touchdown. It was made of plastic foam and fiberglass over a steel frame, and that's all that remained early Tuesday.Travelers on Interstate 75 often were startled to come upon the large scultpure by the road, but many said "America needs more symbols like it." So many people stopped at the church campus that church officials had to build a walkway to cater to them. The 4,000-member evangelical church was founded by a former horse trader, Lawrence Bishop, and his wife. Bishop said in 2004 that he was trying to "help people, not impress them," with the huge statue. He said his wife proposed the Jesus figure as "a beacon of hope and salvation" and they spent about $250,000 to finance it.

read the yahoo news report HERE!

now, i aint religious or nothin, bt if i was a god..... i think i might strike down a statue of me that's being mimicked on a website like this just for shits and giggles..... wouldn't you?! although.... richard take note....there's a tshirt there that resembles that bar i told you about that you didn't believe me about........ huh?!

anyways, had a semi busy day at "the office" today, 1 customer rescheduled so got some more painting done for the website and got a tattoo done too, but it's late..... and that's gonna have to wait til 2mollow...laaaaaa

went to go see cats on fire play tonight (wow, try googling that for fun!?!) anyways, thats a whole nother blog about the "scene" and the "scenesters" and the "people-who-i-tend-to-dislike-a-lot-sters" .... real hyphanated word by the way, i hear it's worth like a million in scrabble. my gift to you.
